Back   FAQ'S
What is glass made from? Glass is 65% sand, Potassium Nitrate, Lead, Lime & Calcium Carbonate .
What is the lead for? The lead makes the glass softer for engraving and gives the glass extra sparkle.
How hot is the glass? The glass is melted at 1200c and worked at 1075c.
Why don't the irons get hot? The irons are made of stainless steel and because they are shiny, they reflect the heat quickly. Where the iron is dark it will burn you.
What are you using to shape the glass? We use 4 sheets of a large newspaper folded in 4 and kept very wet.
Why doesn't the glass break with the cold water? The temperatures between the hot glass and cold paper are very extreme and so as they come together they trap a layer of steam.
Can you mend broken glass? Glass can be glued and Glass Bond is the best especially for clear glass.
Can you add a bit to mend it? No. You can't add hot glass to cold glass because it will shatter.
Can I put my glass in the dishwasher? It would not be advisable as a lead glass is soft and dishwasher detergents are quite harsh.
Will the colour fade? The colour in our glass is permanent and will not fade in sunlight, nor can it be washed off.
Can you take chips out of the rim of a glass? There is always a risk but generally it can be successful.
